Helping liver cells to become a little more immortal may be the key to treating liver disease, two teams of researchers reported on February 17. The left side of this image shows fibrosis and pronounced steatosis are present in mice with no telomerase reconstitution via gene transfer. Right side shows delayed onset of fibrosis and steatosis -- hallmarks of chronic hepatic injury and cirrhosis in mice treated with telomerase expressing adenovirus.
