Children play in front of a mud house near an unreserved forest in the village of Igbatoro, southwest Nigeria, August 28, 2014. Wood, a form of biomass, is the sole source of energy for hundreds of millions of Africans who lack access to modern sources of power, and logging, both legal and illegal, remains a lucrative business that has contributed to the rapid shrinking of Africa?s rainforests and woodlands. Nigeria lost just over 2 million hectares of forest annually between 2005-2010 driven by agricultural expansion, logging and infrastructure development, according to U.N. data. It is also among the biggest users of solid fuel for cooking, with over 120 million Nigerians relying on firewood and charcoal for their cooking needs, according to the International Energy Agency. Igor Perne (R), 53, an electronic engineer and a member of the International Virtual Aviation Organisation (IVAO), and fellow virtual pilot Franc Lavric fly on a virtual flight in a flight simulator in Nova Vas November 13, 2014. In 2011, Perne, a lifelong flying enthusiast, bought parts of a written-off Cyprus Airways airliner and then spent two and a half years turning the entire nose of the scrapped aircraft into an elaborate flight simulator. Perne had to install some 10km (6.21 miles) of wiring to connect some 300 working switches and 250 indicator lights, as well as hooking up six computers to run the simulation. Perne cooperates with fellow flying enthusiasts in the Netherlands, Germany, and several other countries, flying on virtual routes across a virtual European sky, complete with virtual flight control operators and realistic checklists and weather conditions. A woman wears a home-made dress featuring imitation 100 and 500 euro notes as she walks in Bordeaux, southwestern France, November 7, 2014. The look-alike currency notes, printed on individual pieces of fabric and sewn together to complete the dress were also used in other projects by the creator including tabelcloths. A year-long investigation into allegations of collusion and manipulation by global currency traders is set to come to a head on Wednesday, with Britain's financial regulator and six big banks expected to agree a settlement involving around ?1.5 billion ($2.38 billion) in fines. The settlement comes amid a revival of long-dormant volatility on the foreign exchanges, where a steady rise of U.S. dollar this year has depressed oil prices and the currencies of many commodity exporters such as Russia's rouble, Brazil's real and Nigeria's naira - setting the scene for more turbulence on world financial markets in 2015.
