The Wider Image: This Kabul orphanage is struggling to feed its children as it runs low on cash
Samira, 9, and Aminullah help each other with homework at the orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan, October 10, 2021. Samira wants to be a doctor when she grows up. "I want to serve my homeland and save others from disease, and I also want other girls to study so that they become a doctor like me in the future," she says with a sheepish grin. Because of her age, Samira is still able to go to school outside the orphanage, and is already taking extra classes in order to get ahead. Hardship has not dented her ambition, but she also recognises that in order to achieve her goals, she may have to go abroad to study. "I am not allowed to study here". The Wider Image: Children's drawings from lockdown show the world what they miss most
A combination picture shows Vasilis Bekiaris, 10, and Aggeliki Bekiaris, 7, posing for a photograph while holding pictures that they drew during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, as they stand on the balcony of their home in Thessaloniki, Greece, April 18, 2020. The writings in Greek in the drawings read: "I want spring back" and "We stay home" which is the national slogan of Greece against coronavirus disease outbreak. Vasilis who said he drew spring, said: "I miss my friends and I want it to end." Aggeliki who drew a house, said: "We stay at home because of the coronavirus. I miss my friends and my teachers." The siblings say they spent their time at home by playing with toys, doing online homeworks and watching televison. REUTERS/Murad Sezer SEARCH "CORONAVIRUS DRAWING" FOR THIS STORY.
