Mental health workers find it especially difficult coping with pandemic
Amina Woods, program director for a foster care agency and a psychotherapist for a private practice, poses for a portrait in New York City, U.S., March 3, 2021. "I think it goes overlooked the impact that Covid has taken on caregivers, whether it's doctors, nurses, therapists. I remember over the summer... the ads aren't as frequent anymore. There was a lot of appreciation for the health care workers and the work that they do. But I don't think that there's been enough concern about how the work that they've been doing has been impacting their physical health, their mental health", Woods said during an interview with Reuters. "While we're also caring for those who are impacted, we are a part of that population who's impacted by Covid. And I think it's important for us to know that the caregivers need some support. We need some caring for as well." Picture taken March 3, 2021. REUTERS/Zakiyyah Woods

The Wider Image: By catching bats, these 'virus hunters' hope to stop the next pandemic
Kirk Taray, a bat ecologist, holds a cloth bag containing captured bats as he walks with a team of scientists back to the foot of Mount Makiling in Los Banos, Laguna province, Philippines, March 5, 2021. "As we continue to gain close contact with wildlife, we are deliberately exposing ourselves to diseases and danger. If we cannot stop this, we might as well develop measures of control to reduce the impacts of possible future outbreaks, at the very least. That is why this research is important. By having the baseline data on the nature and occurrence of the potentially zoonotic virus in bats, we can somehow predict possible outbreaks and establish suitable, sound, and science-based health protocols," said Taray.
