A father comforts his son after circumcision in the mosque of
Bulgaria's southern town of Kardzhali in the Rhodope mountains, some
240 km south-east from the capital Sofia on October 4, 2003. The
circumcision was banned in Bulgaria during the communist regime.
Bulgarian ethnic Turks comprise around 10 percent of the Balkan
