Margaret Peruma, a 63-year-old Sri Lankan grandmother prays at a Buddhist temple in Kelaniya May 14 on the outskirts of the capital Colombo for the safety of soldiers battling Tamil Tiger rebels in the northern Jaffna peninsula. Peruma's grandson Manjula Perera was wounded in the fighting against the rebels. Many women turned up at the temple to pray for the dead and wounded on the Mothers' Day.
