Lauren Hoffmann, 29, a college program manager, stands on a stool to reach a cabinet in her kitchen in San Antonio, Texas, U.S., February 12, 2019. Hoffmann only had five and a half weeks of accrued paid time off from her job. "You're worried about this tiny little new life, you love it so fiercely," she said. "Having more time to feel like you're getting good at this ... I think that could only be a good thing." REUTERS/Callaghan O'Hare SEARCH "O'HARE PARENTAL" FOR THIS STORY. Food and kitchen items are scattered on the kitchen floor of a house seized by authorities in Ciudad Juarez May 23, 2014. The house was seized and sealed after it had been identified as one of a series of safe houses for illegal immigrants used by a group of coyotes, according to police reports. Police found the house after arresting a coyote who was with 12-year-old Ecuadorean girl Nohemi Alvarez Quillay, on a street in Ciudad Juarez. She was travelling with the coyote after her parents, who live in the U.S., paid a group of coyotes to bring her over. She was later sent to a government-run shelter for her protection where she committed suicide shortly after. Tens of thousands of children unaccompanied by parents or relatives are flooding across the southern U.S. border illegally, forcing the Obama administration and Congress to grapple with both a humanitarian crisis and a budget dilemma. Prosper Ben David (R) signs for his new home in the caravan park of Nitzanim as his children play in the kitchen July 31, 2005. Opening a caravan park to provide temporary housing in southern Israel for Gaza evacuees, authorities handed keys to the red-roofed, air-conditioned trailers dubbed "cara-villas" to several families due to move in later in the week. Israel fears that half of the Jewish settlers slated for evacuation from occupied Gaza next month will stay put rather than agree to relocation, forcing troops to remove them, a cabinet minister said on Sunday.
