Herder Genzhong, 40, lies in a hospital bed with his blackened frostbitten hands that will be amputated in Xi Ujimqin Qi, in China's Inner Mongolia region, February 10, 2001. The sparsely populated Xi Ujimqin area is one of the few Mongol-majority areas in Inner Mongolia, where regionally only 15.5 percent of the population are Mongols with the majority Han Chinese.
