INDIAN GIRLS PERFORM "MALLAKHAMB" A TRADITIONAL INDIAN GYMNASTICS IN
Two Indian girls perform the rope variation of a traditional form of Indian
gymnastics, known as "Mallakhamb" (gymnast's pole), in Bombay May 27,2003.
Mallakhamb, which can be traced back to the 12th century in India, combines
aggressive body control and the gentleness of a dancer to attain physical
fitness. However, Mallkhamb is on the decline owing to the commercialisation
of other sports. Pictures of the month May 2003 NO RIGHTS CLEARANCES OR PERMISSIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS IMAGE REUTERS/Roy
