A man transports manure using a horse-driven cart on a road near Ucea de Jos village, 260 km (159 miles) northwest of Bucharest February 12, 2013. British and European Union officials will try to work out on Wednesday how to contain a scandal over horsemeat sold as beef which has shocked consumers and exposed flaws in European systems of food safety control. The scandal, affecting a growing number of European countries and retailers, began in Ireland when its food safety authority discovered horsemeat in frozen beef burgers. The revelations raised questions about the food supply chain and prompted governments to send out an EU-wide alert. Romania's prime minister said on Monday any fraud over horsemeat sold as beef had not happened in his country and he was angered by suggestions it might have been. A worker throws bird dung to be processed on Ballestas island, south of Lima, October 9, 2011. Ballestas, like the other 21 islands along the Peruvian coast, is home to nearly 4 million migratory birds such as guanays, boobies and pelicans whose excrement make up the world's finest natural fertilizer. The bird dung, also known as guano, reached its greatest economic importance in the 19th century as a coveted resource being exported to the United States, England and France. With a current annual production of 20 thousand tons, Peru hopes to benefit mostly small farmers by boosting organic agriculture, the Rural Agrarian Productive Development Program (Agrorural) reported. Dinh Thi Thanh holds droppings of weasels containing digested arabica coffee berries at Hiep Chat farm in Cang village, located in Vietnam's northwestern province of Son La, 320 km (199 miles) from Hanoi October 4, 2011. IT programmer Dinh Thi Thanh and her father, farmer Dinh Cong Hiep, established the farm in 2010 to breed weasels to make "weasel coffee", similar to Indonesia's Kopi Luwak, or civet coffee. The digested berries are later collected and roasted by Hiep and Thanh. REUTERS/Kham (VIETNAM - Tags: AGRICULTURE ANIMALS FOOD SOCIETY BUSINESS)

Farmers lead their cows transporting carts of cow dung, to be used as fertiliser, as they walk past a field of codonopsis pilosula, a traditional Chinese medicine also known as dang shen, in Min county, Gansu province May 31, 2011. Rows of white plastic shields have been installed to protect the roots of the dang shen to keep it warm and moist. Commonly used as a cheaper substitute for ginseng, the herb is believed to lower blood pressure, boost one's immune system and improve appetite.
