Patients are seen in a hallway at the regional psycho-neurological hospital on the outskirts of Slovyanoserbsk, in a territory controlled by "Lugansk People's Republic" (LPR), eastern Ukraine, December 1, 2014. The Psycho-Neurological Hospital outside the village of Slovyanoserbsk is caught in the crossfire in separatist-held territory about 30 km (20 miles) northwest of the rebel stronghold of Luhansk and near the frontline. Medical workers say the head of the hospital was killed by a shell in Luhansk and about half the 180 staff have fled. There were 400 patients when fighting began, they say. Human rights groups say that thousands of tonnes of hazardous waste remain buried underground, and the government has conceded it is contaminated. Fusionarte members Hugo Aritmendiz (L), Pablo Ruiz-Larrea, Sergio Martin (R) dance to their own rhythm during the group's dance class in Madrid April 20, 2013. Argentine choreographer and dancer Pau Vazquez set up Fusionarte dance group in 2007 in Madrid to introduce dance to people with special needs. The group, which is assisted by another three dance instructors, holds lessons every Saturday for an hour to teach around 20 adult men and women of varying intellectual disabilities to dance as a way to build up self-confidence and self-expression. The group does not receive any subsidies. Instead every member of the group contributes money to the studio rental for rehearsals, and pay for their costumes and props they use for their performances at charity galas. According to Vazquez, "Dance helps members of the group build their confidence and feel empowered. They express their emotions through the movement and learn to respect and admire what each individual is capable of doing". Picture taken April 20, 2013. Patients are locked in a room at a mental hospital in Banda Aceh
Patients are locked in a room at a mental hospital in Banda Aceh December 12, 2012. According to the hospital's staff, who take care of more than 700 patients, the number of people suffering from mental illness rose because of the province's long conflict, devastating 2004 tsunami, and also because of the use of narcotics. In deeply traditional society, people suffering from mental illnesses are often kept chained at home and treated with traditional medicines. Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation, but nowhere is the faith more strictly interpreted than in Aceh, sometimes referred to as the "verandah of Mecca" because it was one of the first parts of the archipelago to turn to Islam. Aceh is Indonesia's only province to have implemented sharia, or Islamic laws. Picture taken December 12, 2012. REUTERS/Damir Sagolj (INDONESIA - Tags: CRIME LAW SOCIETY RELIGION)

Nawal al-Masalmeh sits in her room in the West Bank village of Beit Awa near Hebron August 27, 2008. A charity in the West Bank offered shelter on Wednesday to a mentally handicapped Palestinian woman after it emerged her father had made her live for most of the past 20 years in a room under his house. Police found Nawal al-Masalmeh and her brother Bassam, who suffers similar disabilities, in an unlit and unventilated cellar on Tuesday during a raid aimed at suspected arms and drug dealers in the village of Beit Awa.
