Australian Museum Anthropology project officers Rebecca Conway (L) and Antje Sonntag carry a 100-year-old New Caledonian tribal mask made from human-hair and pigeon feathers into a new display gallery in the old Sydney Customs House November 26. The mask is a representation of a mythological water-spirit and was used in initiation ceremonies for young boys. The thousands of artifacts held in storage by the Museum are being displayed to the public for the first time as a result of this new exhibition space.
