Pictures of the Year: For Trump, a year of high drama at home and abroad
U.S. President Donald Trump appears on the South Portico of the White House with the Easter Bunny standing behind him as the annual White House Easter Egg Roll is held on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, U.S., April 2, 2018. Reuters photographer Carlos Barria: "There are many holiday events at the White House, but one of the most light-hearted happens during Easter, when the President shows up at the balcony of the South Portico accompanied by someone in a big Easter bunny costume. I didn't have the best position, but towards the end, the bunny stood behind the President and I was able to take this shot." REUTERS/Carlos Barria SEARCH "TRUMP POY" FOR FOR THIS STORY. Gabriela Ortiz, owner of Fruit Paradise which sells Mexican ice cream treats and snacks, which is also a UPS Access Point for consumers to pick up their packages in the store, in Chicago, Illinois, October 26, 2015. After two years of disappointing profits from the holiday season, United Parcel Service Inc is hoping a network of mom-and-pop retailers will help it avoid a third blue Christmas. The network, including 4,400 UPS stores and thousands of small retailers, is meant to give the company's drivers more places to leave packages for customers to pick up, avoiding multiple delivery attempts. Determined not to repeat a holiday season that left millions of packages delivered too late and customers seething, United Parcel Service Inc and FedEx Corp are investing heavily in new infrastructure - but the continued dynamic growth of e-commerce will test those efforts. Eric Frost, who is on a golfing holiday from Freeland, Michigan, U.S., poses for a photograph as he hits a tee shot on the King's course at Gleneagles in Perthshire, Scotland, August 19, 2014. The Ryder Cup will be played in Scotland for only the second time when the Gleneagles resort marks its 90th anniversary by hosting the eagerly awaited biennial event from September 26-28. Gleneagles was named the best golf resort in the world for the third year running at the 2014 ULTRA awards and follows Muirfield in 1973 as the only Scottish venues since the tournament began in 1927. Europe goes into the event as odds-on favourites, having won five of the last six contests and having not lost on home soil since 1993. The United States, captained by Tom Watson, are without Tiger Woods and are still stinging from the "Miracle of Medinah" when Europe came from 10-4 down to claim a remarkable 14-1/2 -13-1/2 triumph with the greatest singles performance by an away team in Ryder Cup history. Tourists walk along the beach-front in the Dorset holiday town of Weymouth, England, July 13, 2013. The port was the departure point for thousands of Allied troops who took part in the D-Day landings. On June 6, 1944, allied soldiers descended on the beaches of Normandy for D-Day - an operation that turned the tide of the Second World War against the Nazis, marking the beginning of the end of the conflict. Today, as many around the world prepare to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the landings, pictures of Normandy's now-touristy beaches stand in stark contrast to images taken around the time of the invasion. But while the landscape has changed, the memory of the momentous event lives on. Reuters photographer Chris Helgren compiled a series of archive pictures taken during the 1944 invasion and then went back to the same places, to photograph them as they appear today.
