A public telephone booth is seen in Eritrea's capital Asmara, February 20, 2016. Eritrea's capital city boasts one of the world's finest collections of early 20th century architecture, which the authorities want declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When Italy's colonial experiment in Eritrea ended in 1941, it left behind an array of Rationalist, Futurist, Art Deco and other styles of Modernism in Asmara, a city they nicknamed "La Piccola Roma" or "Little Rome". Wider Image: Fighting Olympic Eviction in Rio Favela
A public phone is seen in the Vila Autodromo slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 13, 2015. As sports arenas rise up around them and neighbours' houses are demolished, around 50 families remain in Vila Autodromo, a favela bordering the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro. About half of those refuse to leave the favela, which they describe as "paradise" because of a lack of violence compared with poor areas elsewhere in the city. With a year until the Games come to Brazil, over 90 percent of residents have already left after accepting compensation. The holdouts, despite violent run-ins with police, vow to fight eviction whatever the cost. Living in a ghost town with sporadic access to water and electricity, the families have become a symbol against the use of the Olympic Games to modernize Rio, a move critics say is only benefiting the rich. Flood waters cover the urban landscape in the Somerset village of Moorland February 16, 2014. British ministers will meet representatives of the insurance industry on Tuesday, February 18, who will brief them on their progress in dealing with victims of winter floods across southern England. Some areas of England have been under water for more than a month after the wettest January on record, leaving homeowners displaced and crops ruined. Storms have even washed away key railway lines along the coast. Analysts at Deloitte have estimated the bill for repairs could reach 1 billion pounds ($1.67 billion) if heavy rains continue into the spring. Picture taken February 16, 2014. Mohammad from Togo, member of the ASD Mineo soccer team, uses a telephone before his Sunday match, in the immigration centre near the Sicilian village of Mineo January 26, 2014. ASD Mineo's 25-man amateur squad is made up of African migrants who risked their lives to cross the sea - a journey that killed hundreds of others in shipwrecks. Their team, the first of its kind in Italy, was created and funded by the managers of the Mineo centre for asylum seekers, one of Europe's largest such shelters. ASD Mineo, as the team is called, is registered in the lowest category of Italy's official football pyramid, which groups 600 divisions and in which, in theory, any team can rise to the top of the league, or Serie A. The team is on track to advance to the next division in its first season. Picture taken January 26, 2014. REUTERS/Tony Gentile (ITALY - Tags: SPORT POLITICS SOCIETY IMMIGRATION SOCCER)
