The two companies have agreed to form a 50-50 percent joint venture in the liquid-crystal display business. Philips plans to invest $1.6 billion to acquire a 50 percent stake in LG LCD Co, currently 100 percent owned by LG Electronics Inc, a subsidiary of LG Electronics Group.
