Broken pieces of glass protrude from a wall to keep out trespassers at an illegal golf course which was demolished and turned into a cornfield in the suburbs of Beijing, June 16, 2014. Chinese authorities are demolishing illegal golf courses, suggesting the government could finally be cracking down on developers who have long ignored a 2004 ban on building new golf courses. The government, which announced the demolitions last month, said its actions served as a warning and an attempt to educate "would-be" violators. The ban was imposed to protect China's shrinking land and water resources in a country home to a fifth of the world's population but which has just 7 percent of its water. The only place exempt is the southern resort island of Hainan. Picture taken June 16, 2014. REUTERS/Kim Kyung-Hoon (CHINA - Tags: BUSINESS SPORT GOLF CRIME LAW POLITICS REAL ESTATE)

The grave of an unknown French soldier is seen at the "Tranchee des Baillonettes" (Trench of Bayonets) monument of Douaumont near Verdun, northeastern France, March 30, 2014. When the battlefield clearance parties began to search the Verdun area after the war, one party found what appeared to be a mass grave of men from one unit, the 137th Infantry Regiment and a line of some thirty nine bayonets protruding from the ground : each one marking the location of a body. The legend said the soldiers were killed in their "jumping off" trench when the intense German shelling literally buried them alive. All the bayonets have now been stolen. Hundreds of thousands of French and Germany soldiers were killed during the battle of Verdun. The year 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
