A rattlesnake is "milked" for its venom at Brazil's renowned Butantan Institute in Sao Paulo March 6. The nearly 100-year-old institute, tucked away behind trees on a hilltop in bustling Sao Paulo, makes anti-venom for snakes, scorpions, spiders and "killer" caterpillars, which kill about 150 Brazilians each year.

LEI HONGMEI LIES IN BED WITH HUNDREDS OF SNAKES IN A CHINESE THEME PARK
Three-year-old Lei Hongmei shares a bed with a boa constrictor snake under a canopy of other snakes April 26, after spending 99 days with five other people in a glass cage with thousands of the reptiles, at the 'Flying Dragon World' park in Panyu, China. Human rights activists have denounced the amusement park stunt, and a Hong Kong newspaper said the six 'snake-people' were not allowed by park management to leave the enclosure as they were being bitten by venomous cobras and rattlesnakes. The 100-day event was an attempt to win a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
