Bulgarian Muslim youths carry the dowry during the wedding ceremony of Bulgarian Muslims Fikrie Bindzheva and Azim Liumankov in the village of Ribnovo, in the Rhodope Mountains, February 15, 2015. The remote mountain village of Ribnovo in southwest Bulgaria has kept its traditional winter marriage ceremony alive despite decades of Communist persecution, followed by poverty that forced many men to seek work abroad. The wedding ritual was resurrected with vigour among the Pomaks - Slavs who converted to Islam under Ottoman rule. The highlight of the ceremony is the painting of the bride's face, where in a private rite open only to female in-laws, her face is covered in thick, chalky white paint and decorated with colourful sequins. People gather to get water from a huge well in the village of Natwarghad in the western Indian state of Gujarat, in this file picture taken June 1, 2003. The world?s population will reach seven billion on 31 October 2011, according to projections by the United Nations, which says this global milestone presents both an opportunity and a challenge for the planet. While more people are living longer and healthier lives, says the U.N., gaps between rich and poor are widening and more people than ever are vulnerable to food insecurity and water shortages. A man walks inside a burnt Sunni mosque in Baghdad February 23, 2006. Sectarian violence in Iraq after suspected al Qaeda bombs devastated a major Shi'ite shrine left religious and political leaders in Baghdad and abroad scrambling to halt a descent into all-out civil war. Three Sunni clerics were among six people killed, police said, at 27 Sunni mosques in Baghdad attacked by militants. Much damage was minor but at least two mosques were burned out.
