Lights are on at dusk in the isolated Spanish village of Pitarque in Teruel, one of the least populated regions of the European Union, June 21, 2022. Only four children kept the school open in the remote village, but with two of them leaving at the end of the school year, the school will have to be closed. If population trends continue as expected, the village founded by Arabs in 714-874 that even crossed the 1,000 inhabitants mark at the beginning of last century, will be completely deserted in 2046. Rural school closes down in one of the least populated regions of the European Union 
Lone cats roam around in the evening in the isolated Spanish village of Pitarque in Teruel, one of the least populated regions of the European Union, June 12, 2022. Only four children kept the school open in the remote village, but with two of them leaving at the end of the school year, the school will have to be closed. If population trends continue as expected, the village founded by Arabs in 714-874 that even crossed the 1,000 inhabitants mark at the beginning of last century, will be completely deserted in 2046.
