Roebuck "Pops" Staples, the patriarch of the gospel group the "Staples Singers" died December 19, 2000 in Chicago at the age of 85. Staples (C), shown with his daughter Mavis (R) and singer Lauren Hill (L) on March 15, 1999 in New York as he accepted the group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, never recovered from a recent concussion suffered after a fall near his Dolton, Illinois home.
