A villager uses a stick in an attempt to contain a forest fire as its burns through the Indonesian city of Samarinda March 23. Thousands of locals have fallen ill due to the thick smoke which has dropped visibility to 100 metres (330 feet) in some parts of East Kalimantan province. Fires over the past few days across the province have so far destroyed thousands of hectares of forest.
