Porters load bags of dried longan fruit onto a truck in preparation for export to China at Dong Dang...
Porters load bags of dried longan fruit onto a truck in preparation for export to China at Dong Dang town, on the border with China, in Vietnam's northern Lang Son province July 30, 2014. Vietnam's testy but economically vital ties with China have soured since early May, when Beijing moved a $1 billion oil rig unannounced into a stretch of the South China Sea that Hanoi claims is its exclusive economic zone. It prompted protests that degenerated into riots targeting Chinese factories in an unprecedented outpouring of anger. Trade with Beijing was worth $50 billion last year and any interruption to that could badly hurt Vietnam, while inflicting little damage on China. Thirty percent of Vietnam's imports last year were from its neighbour, worth $37 billion, equivalent to just one percent of Beijing's total exports. China imports 40 percent of Vietnam's total rice and rubber shipments each year and accounts for 25 percent of tourist arrivals, which have plummeted lately. Picture taken July 30, 2014. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk (L) visits a local hospital in the Black Sea port of Odessa May 4, 2014. Yatseniuk accused Russia on Sunday of engineering clashes in Odessa that led to the deaths of more than 40 pro-Russian activists in a blazing building and pushed the country closer to civil war. Yatseniuk, speaking in Odessa, attacked police forces in the Black Sea port city, suggesting they were more interested in the fruits of corruption than maintaining order. Volunteers of the Metro-Manila council rescue and development agency remove debris from what used to be a fruit and fish market at the eastern Samar town of Guiuan November 19, 2013. Authorities estimate more than 3,900 people were killed when Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, one of the largest ever recorded, made landfall in the central Philippines and the sea surged ashore. Philippine authorities, the U.S. military and international agencies face a mounting humanitarian crisis, with the number of people displaced by the catastrophe estimated at four million, up from 900,000 late last week. U.S. "people-to-people" tourists stand beside a natural sea pool in the Zapata Swamp in southern Cuba April 7, 2012. People pay a lot of money to visit the Caribbean island that has been mostly off limits the past half century even though it is just 90 miles (145 km) from Florida. A four-day trip to Havana for two costs nearly $5,000, not including airfare, but the forbidden fruit aspect of Cuba is a big draw, said Edward Piegza, who led the first trip for his San Diego, California-based travel company Classic Journeys. Tourists from other parts of the world, mostly Canada and Europe, freely visit the island for its beaches, vintage American cars and Spanish colonial architecture. Picture taken April 7, 2012.
