Photographer Lan Zhigui (L), points at one of his photographs in which Lieutenant-General Yin Fatang, former Communist Party secretary of Tibet from 1980-1985, is seen in during the opening of his exhibition at the China Art Museum in Beijing March 22, 2009. China's newly declared "Serf Liberation Day" will help convince young people that traditional Tibetan society was oppressive, an elderly cadre known for his hard-line views on Tibet said in a rare interview. Still influential today, Yin was the party secretary of Tibet from 1980-1985, when the region was just emerging from the devastation of the Cultural Revolution. A Han Chinese, he is one of the few high-ranking officials from outside Tibet to learn the language fluently. He is considered to belong to the dominant policy view that Tibet needs economic development, but not religious or cultural concessions. Picture taken March 22, 2009.
