The Wider Image: On Norway's border with Russia, unease over military buildup
Ships are docked along the pier of the Kimek shipyard in Kirkenes, Norway, October 24, 2019. "I don't like it that they build up the military on both sides of the border. We don't want rising tensions," said Eirik Wikan, co-owner of the Kimek shipyard, which gets two-thirds of its revenues from repairing Russian vessels. "Here in the north, we work together to reduce tensions ...We are trying not to be part of them." REUTERS/Maxim Shemetov SEARCH "NORWAY-RUSSIA BORDER" FOR THIS STORY. Workers repair a ship at a dry dockyard in Mumbai November 17, 2014. The redevelopment of Mumbai's mostly derelict docklands will, if a government appointed panel has its way, create a waterfront where people living in the world's second most densely-populated city can go to lift their spirits, and the rich can go to play. Owned by Mumbai Port Trust, the largest landowner in India's financial hub, much of the 7 square kilometers (2.7 square miles) up for redevelopment is occupied today by crumbling warehouses, informal housing and workers who eke out a living breaking down disused ships or sorting through scrap metal. An inmate repairs his shoes at the jail where crew members of Florida-based shipwreck salvage company Aqua Quest International have been detained, in Puerto Lempira, on the Mosquito coast of northeastern Honduras June 7, 2014. The crew of the Tarpon Springs-based shipwreck salvage company has been held for a month in the Honduras jail after authorities accused them of gun smuggling, a company spokesman said on Thursday. Stephen Mayne of Aqua Quest International, whose two brothers are among the men being held, said the company had a contract with a local municipality to do salvage work. Mayne said the company told port officials in advance they would be carrying guns for protection against pirates. Colonel Antonio Sanchez, a spokesman for the Honduran armed forces, said the crew was arrested because they did not have permits to possess guns in the country. Carpenters work on a boat at a yard in Karachi's Fish Harbour February 26, 2014. The yard is used mainly for building and repairing cargo and fishing boats the traditional way, without using high-end technology or blueprints. The boat sizes vary from 60 to 120 feet, and takes 15 to 20 artisans to complete in 15 months. According to a local contractor, the boats are made for locals as well as foreign buyers.
