PIGEONS FEED IN FRONT OF THE ST PETER'S BASILICA IN ROME
Pigeons feed in front of the St Peter's Basilica in Rome February 27. The Vatican unveiled a plan to restore the facade of the St Peter' Basilica to its original glory in time for the start of the third millennium. Parts of the facade will be covered by scaffolding during the three-year project to clean the marble and repair damage from by four centuries of natural decay and pollution, the work starts next month and is due to be completed in September 1999.
