AMERICAN SFOR TROOPS SECURE SARAJEVO AHEAD OF BALKAN SUMMIT VENUE.
American soldiers serving with the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia safeguard the Bosnian capital ahead of the Balkans stability pact summit scheduled for July 29-30 in Sarajevo. Some 4,000 SFOR peacekeepers will be allocated to help in providing safe environment for the summit which is to geather 15-member European Union, nine non-EU countries from the region, the United States, Japan, Canada and Russia. Other countries will take part as observers. The sign reads "Welcome to Bosnia-Herzegovina".

The United Nations Mine Action Center estimated there are up to 1 million mines in about 30,000 minefields throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Hungarian SFOR (Stabilisation Force) soldiers work on a damaged bridge January 29 some 40 km northeast of Sarajevo. Hungarian troops serve as a part of the multinational NATO-led peace force in Bosnia and Herzegovina. NATO countries plan to name new members from central and eastern Europe at a July summit and Hungaria is most likely one that will be admitted in the first wave.
