Mike Stoher Senior, 67, bows his head in prayer during a service for a Cowboy Church in Harrisonburg, United States, August 11, 2015. Pastor Bell who has been leading the Cowboy Church for 11 years says that the church operates according to five principals, the church is non-denominational, there is no dress code, no membership, no offerings are collected during the service and is held in non-traditional settings. In the Bible Belt of southern U.S. states, Kentucky and Georgia among them, church and religion are ever present, from well-attended services to prayer groups and choirs. Crosses hang from necklaces and prayers are said before meals and Little League baseball sessions. Even so, Americans as a whole are becoming less religious, judging by such markers as church attendance, prayer and belief in God, according to a recent poll by Pew Research Center. A worker prunes almond trees in an orchard near Bakersfield in the Central Valley
A worker prunes almond trees in an orchard near Bakersfield in the Central Valley, California, United States January 17, 2015. Almonds, a major component of farming in California, use up some 10 percent of the state's water reserves according to some estimates. California ranks as the top farm state by annual value of agricultural products, most of which are produced in the Central Valley, the vast, fertile region stretching 450 miles (720 km) north-sound from Redding to Bakersfield. California water regulators on Tuesday adopted the state's first rules for mandatory cutbacks in urban water use as the region's catastrophic drought enters its fourth year. Urban users will be hardest hit, even though they account for only 20 percent of state water consumption, while the state's massive agricultural sector, which the Public Policy Institute of California says uses 80 percent of human-related consumption, has been exempted. Brody Baca, 9, practices lassoing at the rodeo in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico May 2, 2014. The world's first purpose-built commercial space base and soon-to-be site of the first space flights with Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic is near the town of Truth or Consequences in New Mexico. The inaugural flight into suborbital space should happen later this year and the first astronauts, who have made reservations and paid $250,000 for the flight, should follow a month later. While it's not clear what the economic impact will be, many agree that Spaceport America should inject new energy into the town.
