Calves suckle after feeding at Beacon Farm near Birmingham, Britain August 11, 2015. British farmers warned on Monday they were facing financial ruin with falls in the price of milk forcing many out of work and spurring others to blockade distribution centres and walk cows through supermarkets. Farming unions from across the country were meeting in London to urge the government to provide more help for an industry that has seen a 25 percent year-on-year drop in the amount farmers are paid for milk. A grey seal calf suckles from its mother just after being born on the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast, northern England November 17, 2013. The Farne Islands, which lie off the coast of northeast England, are home to a huge array of wildlife. The islands are owned and protected by the British conservation charity, the National Trust, which says they host some 23 species of seabird, as well as a substantial colony of grey seals, who come to have their pups there in the autumn. Every five years the National Trust carries out a census of the islands' population of puffins, and this year's survey showed there were almost 40,000 nesting pairs on the islands - an 8 percent rise from 2008. A vendor selling roasted suckling pig talks to a customer at the Malveira village market, on the outskirts of Lisbon May 30, 2013. Portugal's business confidence improved for the fifth consecutive month in May, when the country sold its first 10-year bond since its 2011 EU/IMF bailout, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday. However, the INE said its consumer confidence indicator edged down to a negative reading of 55.0 this month from minus 54.2 in April and minus 52.6 a year earlier, cutting short a four-month rising trend. A piglet suckles milk from a sow at a farm in Hotemaze, October 26, 2012. Europe's pregnant pigs will be happier next year but pork eaters will pay more and some breeders will go out of business as new porcine welfare rules compound the spiraling cost of the cereals for animal feed. Sow stalls, the metal cages used to hem in pregnant pigs and make them easier to control, are to be banned from January 1 across the 27-nation European Union, 11 years after the ban was first voted in by the bloc's lawmakers.
