CANADA INDUSTRY MINISTER JOHN MANLEY TOASTS IN TAIPEI.
Visiting Canada Industry Minister John Manley (R) offers Taiwan's Council for Economic Planning and Development Chairman Chiang Pin-kung a toast during a luncheon September 10 in Taipei. Manley, who arrived in Taiwan late Wednesday for a three-day visit, would meet with other government officials and business leaders during his Taiwan trip that has drawn protest from China, a rival of Taiwan since a civil war split in 1949. Canada has reportedly played down Manley's trip, saying the industry minister merely visited Taiwan to promote trade and investments.
