FILE PHOTO 03MAR98 - French singer Charles Trenet, seen in this March 3, 1998 file photo at the Elysee Palace after being named Commander in the Legion of Honour, has been at the American Hospital for a week after suffering a stroke, according to a hospital spokeswoman April 21. Trenet, one of the giants of French popular song and dubbed as the singing madman, wrote more that 700 songs with an innovative talent blending zany and poetic lyrics and American jazz phrasing. Trenet is to turn 87 next month.
