French-born Marie Helene von Mach of Germany, 75, a former typist, poses next to a typewriter in her apartment in Brussels November 17, 2011. Von Mach was a 20-year-old bilingual secretary who was drafted in 1956 to the Chateau de Val Duchesse near Brussels to help prepare the founding Treaty of Rome. Now, a store room cluttered with furniture, white walls yellowed and scuffed, the room in the Chateau de Val Duchesse still carries the feel of the convent it once was. But von Mach has lost none of the pan-European zeal that marked her days at Chateau de Val Duchesse and sees the European dream surviving the trials of the euro crisis. A Manly ferry is seen sailing on Sydney Harbour behind the sails of the Sydney Opera House June 22, 2005. The Opera House, which sits on the harbour in a postcard seen the world over, has been included on Australia's National Heritage List as a precursor to a possible listing on the United Nations cultutral body UNESCO's World Heritage List. The listing offers the 32-year-old building, which has been likened to a 'portable typewriter full of oyster shells', protection and recognition alongside 12 other buildings, natural and historical sites on the list of Australia's most important cultural sites. Members of the Cuban alternative art group Omni bang out tunes using old typewriters as instruments during the launch of the group's new album "Alamar Express," at a state-owned workshop in Alamar, outside Havana, March 2, 2005. Omni represents one of the more extreme examples of Cuba's fast-growing counter culture movement, which is gaining space in Cuba's socialist society. The Cuban government generally tolerates these movements even if some of them openly criticize the system. PICTURE TAKEN MARCH 2 REUTERS/Claudia Daut CD

Jeff Fischer (R), chief United Nations electoral officer and Michael Holdsworth, a British U.N. police officer examine a typewriter and identity documents in a house located across from a U.N. voter registration centre in Batugade, 80 km west of Dili July 29. The United Nations has found Indonesia government officials issuing new documents to enable people to register to vote in an August ballot on East Timor's future but the U.N. has said it regards what could be taken as suspect activity as a mistake rather than fraud.
