FILE PHOTO OF ROBERT DOWNEY JR.
Lawyers for actor Robert Downey Jr. told a judge March 15, 2001 that they cannot reach a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors on drug possession charges against the troubled actor, shown in this March 11, 2001 file photograph. Downey now faces a trial in which he could go to jail for almost five years if convicted. Superior Court Judge B.J. Bjork set a preliminary hearing date for April 30 at which the actor must appear. The charges stem from Downey's arrest at a posh Palm Springs resort hotel last Thanksgiving when police found cocaine and the prescription drug Valium in his room.
