He rides, he shoots, he acts in the movies -- Randy Travis must be the very model of a modern country singer. But Travis is an unabashed traditionalist, too. Not for him the watered-down, pseudo-country sounds of other acts seeking cross-over hits. "I didn't grow up listening to rock 'n roll or anything else. I grew up with [Hank Williams and Ernest Tubbs and Don Gibsons, Loretta (Lynn) and Tammy (Wynette) and Kitty Wells]," he said proudly in that distinctive North Carolina drawl. "It's important for me to stick to our roots. I think we've drifted way too far from that." Travis is shown during a private moment in the front window of his tour bus as he arrives at the original Woodstock festival site in Bethel, New York for "A Day in The Garden," celebrating 30 years after the original festival at Max Yasgur's farm. Picture taken 14AUG99.

FILE PHOTO 4OCT95 - A Nashville-area medical examiner said February 8 that he would consider exhuming the body of country music star Tammy Wynette (L) for an autopsy almost a year after her doctor declared her dead from a blood clot. Davidson County Medical Examiner Bruce Levy said Wynette's daughters Georgette, Jackie and Tina, and their lawyer "raised several issues" in requesting the autopsy, and that he would make a decision in the next day or two. Wynette is shown performing with George Jones at the 29th Annual Country Music Association Awards ceremony on October 4, 1995.
