Medical and X-ray files are stored in the radiology department of Yangjia Hospital in Wuyi County, Zhejiang Province, China October 19, 2015. Behind the vine-covered walls and broken windows of the radiology department, a single staff member and a single X-ray machine serve the few remaining pneumoconiosis patients at Yangjia Hospital. At Yangjia Hospital in a remote corner of China's eastern Zhejiang province, sufferers of dust lung spend much of their time hooked up to oxygen to treat lungs ravaged by work in a local mine, since shut down. Once equipped with high-tech machinery and 150 staff, the hospital has suffered from falling numbers and a lack of funding. With some of its windows broken and certain rooms abandoned, the hospital now treats just 30 patients. It's a close-knit community including family members, who prepare meals in makeshift kitchens, grow vegetables in the grounds and play cards to kill time. A doctor examines x-ray images of a young man during an army draft held at a school in Klong Toey, the dockside slum area in Bangkok April 7, 2013. Men over 21 must serve in the army, which has always been at the forefront of Thai politics but has come in for some rare criticism since 91 people died in anti-government protests in 2010. Those who volunteer serve six months, but others choose the annual lottery, which goes on for 10 days in recruitment centres around Thailand. Nobody wants a red card, which means serving for two years, with the chance of a posting in the dangerous south. Only those not considered physically capable of service, the mentally ill and those who have significantly altered their physical appearance - such as transgenders, who are more visible in Thai society than in many other nations - are exempt. A computer screen shows a scan of a security official in a RapiScan full-body scanner being trialled at Manchester Airport in Manchester, northern England January 7, 2010. The radiation risk from full-body scanners used to improve airport security is low and unlikely to raise an individual's risk of cancer, U.S. experts said on yesterday. Airports in Britain, the Netherlands and Canada have said they plan to use full-body scanners to foil future terror attempts like the Christmas Day attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound flight. The United States has tested 40 whole-body scanners as part of a pilot program started after the Sept. 11 attacks, and this past October ordered 150 more.
