MISS CHINA YINGNA WU AND MISS UGANDA REHMA NAKUYA POSE IN ABUJA PRIOR
TO THE MISS WORLD PAGEANT.
Miss China, Yingna Wu (L) and Miss Uganda, Rehma Nakuya, pose for
photographs November 13 in Abuja, Nigeria, venue of the 2002 Miss World
pageant. More than 80 contestants have arrived in Nigeria for the
December 7 pageant which had been overshadowed by threats of a mass
boycott because of the sentencing of Nigerian Muslim women to be stoned
to death for adultery. The government averted a boycott after pledging
that no one would be stoned to death. Wu, whose ambition is to become
an interior designer, is from China's Hainan Island. Nakuya, a
qualified medical doctor, has taken a year off from her profession
since becoming her East African country's beauty queen last August.
