Cab driver Curtis Seymour got the call at 3:30 a.m. to pick up a passenger at the Greyhound bus station in Plattsburgh, New York, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the Canadian border. An older Haitian woman wearing a purple and yellow headwrap, mauve lipstick and big gold earrings descended from the bus with two handbags, a backpack and a suitcase. Seymour placed her luggage in the car, and asked where she was headed. "Canada," the woman, who asked to be identified only by her first name, Cilotte, said in broken English. "No police," she added. Seymour, 62, who has driven the same streets in upstate New York for more than a decade, voted for Donald Trump in the Nov. 8 presidential election, partly because of his tough stance on immigration.REUTERS/Christinne Muschi SEARCH "MUSCHI CABBIE" FOR THIS STORY. A woman gets into a yellow and black cab in front of L-Passage food hall on Fouad street in Alexandria, Egypt, February 23, 2016. In Egypt's Alexandria, Fouad Street reflects the city's rich history and is known for its elegant villas and antique shops. Today the Mediterranean coastal city, once a melting pot of nationalities and faith groups, is overcrowded and dilapidated, like many of Egypt's urban centres. Fouad, among the city's oldest streets and once home to a Greek poet and a British novelist, today features modern retail brands and is an area still popular with antique fans and art lovers. A television screen automatically plays inside of a taxi in New York October 14, 2015. A pair of initiatives designed to bring more peace and quiet to taxis, buses and trains moving in and about New York City have been set in motion, promising to boost the supply of a scarce commodity in the metropolitan area - silence. New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission is considering a pilot program that could eliminate Taxi TV, a service that brings movie reviews, Broadway show ads and the like to yellow-cab riders after complaints about the screens, which double as credit card payment systems in the city's fleet of 13,500 yellow taxis, were among the factors that prompted the proposed change, said Allan Fromberg, the TLC's deputy commissioner for public affairs. A man walks on a wall painted with a mural of the iconic yellow train of Santa Teresa neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro June 4, 2014. Rio de Janeiro, with its white beaches, blue ocean and jungle-covered mountains, is still the place that comes to mind when people think of Brazil. Soccer fans coming to Rio for the World Cup will be too late for the city's famed Carnival bash, but they'll also miss the energy-sapping Southern Hemisphere summer heat. By all means visit tourist favorites such as Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf Mountain) and the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado, but here are places that locals enjoy, too. Despite its party reputation, Rio is also a daytime city. Obsessed with health and good looks, many Cariocas, as the locals are known, work hard to keep tan and fit. The beach is best at late morning and late afternoon. Rio food lacks S?o Paulo sophistication but is served with panache. For a classic Rio food experience, take a cab to Santa Teresa, the charming old neighborhood overlooking downtown. To match story TRAVEL-RIO/ Picture taken June 4, 2014. A mechanic repairs a yellow ambassador taxi at a workshop in Kolkata May 25, 2014. The maker of the iconic Ambassador has halted production of the car that was long the choice of Indian officialdom, citing weak demand and a lack of funds, casting doubt on the future of a vehicle that has looked essentially the same for more than five decades. Hindustan Motors Ltd said in a statement that it had suspended work at its Uttarpara plant until further notice. Modelled after the British Morris Oxford, the Ambassador was the first car to be made in India and was once a status symbol, but began losing its dominance in the mid-1980s when Maruti Suzuki introduced its low-priced 800 hatchback. A mechanic salvages engine parts from a Premier Padmini taxi which will be scrapped at a scrapyard in Mumbai October 1, 2012. The Premier Padmini was manufactured in India by Premier Automobiles from 1964 to 2000 and is based on the design of Fiat's 1100-series cars from the 1960s. The vehicle quickly became the iconic workhorse in Mumbai's fleet of black and yellow taxis until economic liberalisation in the 1990s allowed different makes and models to be produced in India. With a government order banning taxis over 25 years old, the number of Premier Padmini taxis has begun to dwindle and, in a few years, they will be gone from Mumbai's streets altogether. Local media estimates put Mumbai's current taxi fleet at about 51,000 vehicles, of which it is estimated that about 8,000 vehicles are over 25 years old.
