Amos Ben-Yosef, 65, an Israeli veteran stand on his Syrian tank in his backyard April 22, 2001, in Pardes Hanna central Israel. Ben-Yosef said the Syrian tank he got is more than 25-year-old, is a Russian made T-62 tank that the Syrians had used in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He got the idea to add the tank to his collection of tractors, more than a year ago when he saw a television program on tanks.

Israel was attacked and caught off guard in the Yom Kippur War and lost 2,700 of its soldiers when attacked by Syria and Egypt. Yom Kippur ended at sundown yesterday.

Enzel, 78, survived the "Death March" and six years in nazi concentration camps and settled on the Golan Heights. His son fought on the Golan in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. An Israeli soldier on top of a tank on the Golan Heights December 15, behind a pock-marked building in a former Syrian town that was damaged in the Yom Kippur War in 1973 in the cental part of the Golan Heights. The Israeli army uses much of the Golan Heights as training areas for its armoured divisions. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara begin their historic meeting today to establish the framework for a comprehensive peace and the possible return of all or part of the Golan heights, the key issue in their formula for peace.

Rivka Moscowitch (2nd, L), the widow of Yaacov Moscowitch, is comforted by family members Esti and Tzila (R) and friend Talma (L) during a memorial ceremony on Mount Herzl Military Cemetery marking the anniversary of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, September 21. Yaacov Moscowitch was 26 when he was killed at the Suez Canal. Tzila, Yaacov's sister, is comforted by Esti (2nd from R) who married Yaacov and Rivka's son. The four women are standing over Yaacov's grave during a tearful memorial service attended by Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Israel's most decorated soldier, who during the Yom Kippur War served in a special forces unit and was decorated for going behind enemy lines and saving a wounded soldier.

Meron Altiger, who lost his life in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, as a ceremony honoring Israel's fallen soldier during the Yom Kippur War comes to a close at Mount Herzl Military Cemetery, September 21. Barak, who leaves immediately for Berlin and then Paris, spoke at the ceremony about the need to renew peace talks with Syria. Barak will be the first foreign leader to visit Berlin since it became the seat of government of a united Germany for the first time since World War II.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lays a wreath in the memory of the Israelis who died in the 1973 Yom Kippur War during an October 12 ceremony marking the war held on Mt Herzl's Military Cemetery. Netanyahu said during the ceremony that Israel remains committed to defeating those of Israel's Middle East neighbors who target Jews for "murderous attacks" to this day.
