Japanese Buddhist monk Ryusho Soeda poses for a photograph during an interview with Reuters at his temple in Koyasan in Koya, Wakayama prefecture, June 25, 2013. Ryusho Soeda, 66, has taken on a job for which his career as a Buddhist priest never prepared him: forensic accounting. Soeda's temple is the 1,200-year-old Koyasan, a World Heritage site deep in the mountains of western Japan and long prized as a haven for quiet contemplation. But in recent months monks here have been debating a very worldly question: How did a complex bet on the yen go so horribly wrong? Picture taken June 25, 2013. Koyu Abe, a Zen priest, works in his study as snow covers the garden in his Joenji temple in Fukushima, northern Japan February 4, 2012. Last summer, Abe grew and distributed sunflowers and other plants, such as field mustard and amaranthus, in an effort to lighten the impact of the radiation and cheer local residents. Now he is trading his ceremonial robes for a protective mask, working with volunteers to track down lingering pockets of radiation and cleaning them up. Picture taken February 4, 2012. Koyu Abe, a Zen priest, holds sunflowers which he thinned from his garden at his Joenji temple in Fukushima, northern Japan August 7, 2011. At the temple, thousands of sunflowers have been planted by Abe's volunteer group "Make A Wish Upon Flowers" to help fight the radiation. "It is as if an invisible snow had fallen on Fukushima and continued to fall, covering the area," said Abe. Sunflowers were used near Chernobyl after the 1986 nuclear accident to extract radioactive caesium from contaminated ponds nearby. Japanese scientists are carrying out tests to prove their usefulness in fighting radiation. Picture taken August 7, 2011. REUTERS/Yuriko Nakao (JAPAN - Tags: DISASTER RELIGION ENVIRONMENT SOCIETY)
