Palestinians attend a rally to show support of Fatah leader Marwan
Barghouthi (L) in the West Bank town of Ramallah August 4, 2001. Israel
fired missiles at a convoy carrying Batghouthi Saturday, Palestinian
officials and witnesses said. Barghouthi said missiles were fired at
two cars near his office in the town of Al-Bireh outside Ramallah but
did not hit his vehicle.

Palestinians holding the Muslim holy book, the Koran, pray over the
body of Nasser Abed during his funeral in the West Bank city of
Ramallah, July 6, 2001. Abed was shot dead by Israeli soldiers Thursday
evening near the Jewish settlement of Psagot, Palestinian hospital
officials said. They quoted witnesses as saying he was shot while
playing soccer in the Palestinian town of Al-Bireh, close to Psagot.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon headed home from a lightning trip
to Europe on Friday acknowledging disagreement over Israel's strong-arm
policies against the Palestinians.

The body of 9-year-old Palestinian Odai Darrj, who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank town of Al-Bireh, is carried by Palestinian policemen during his funeral in Ramallah March 3, 2001. Darrj's death took to 338 the number of Palestinians killed in the five-month uprising against Israeli occupation. Sixty-two Israelis and 13 Israeli Arabs have also been killed.

Masked Palestinian gunmen escort the body of Shehadeh Jefari, 27, during his funeral in the West Bank town of Ramallah December 3, 2000. Israeli Defense Forces said Sunday they had shot Jefari yesterday in the West Bank village of Al-Bireh as he was holding an electric drill which may have been mistaken for a weapon. The army said that the soldiers were fired upon from the building in which he was working and returned fire.
