Madrid Train Bombings - 12 Mar 2014
Images from the tenth anniversary of the March 11 train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people and injured more than 1,500. Ten bombs packed into sports bags and detonated by mobile phones tore through the trains on March 11, 2004, leaving the tracks strewn with bodies. Three weeks later, seven men including two suspected ringleaders of the train bombings blew themselves up in a suburban apartment after police closed in on them. The explosives were the same as were used in the attack. The magistrate who investigated the bombings said they were inspired by, but not directed by, al Qaeda.

Archive images from the aftermath of the bombing are also included in this package.
