BENJAMIN NETANYAHU IN JERUSALEM PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER MORDECHAI DROPS OUT OF RACE.
A sweating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu answers questions towards the conclusion of a press conference he called in his offices May 16 following the announcement by Center party leader Yitzhak Mordechai that he was withdrawing as a prime ministerial candidate in the May 17 general elections. With pre-election polls showing Netanyahu trailing Ehud Barak of the One Israel party Netanyahu lashed out at Mordechai asking, "Where is your credibility?" and painted both Barak and Mordechai as left-wingers who would sell out Israel on security matters. The former army general's exit dramatically raised the chances that right-wing Prime Minister Netanyahu would lose to Barak in the first round of voting tomorrow.
