Images of a ram nicknamed "Tianjiu" (everlasting) as he is presented by the Tianjin TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital in Tianjin municipality. The 3-year-old ram is carrying a ventricular assistant device (VAD) near its heart, which is designed by the hospital to enhance cardiac pumping function by using magnetic suspension technologies from state-of-the-art aerospace science.

The device aims to help more than 80 million heart failure patients all over the world. According to the hospital, the project started in March 2008 and "Tianjiu" is the 18th experimental subject that has lived healthily for over two months after being implanted
