As Democratic presidential candidates traverse Nevada ahead of the caucus on Saturday, one woman is taking her support off the streets and onto the trails, canvassing in the rolling hills and dirt roads outside Reno on horseback.

Cynthia Rifi, who supports Senator Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist who has risen to front-runner status in opinion polls, said her decision to take out her 15-year-old riding partner Sebastian came down to her need to care for her Dutch warmblood gelding while still supporting her candidate.

"When I first was thinking about canvassing, my biggest dilemma was I have to have time to ride my horses, get them exercise, get them out on the trail, how am I going to do both? And then I kind of looked around where I live and I thought, 'Ah hah, I'll canvas on horseback,'" said Rifi, who ironically is allergic to horse hair, hay and sagebrush.
