101 Years Mending Dolls, Teddies and Hearts - 25 Aug 2014
Click here for a Highlight Edit

Opened in 1913, Sydney’s Doll Hospital has saved more than 3 million dolls, teddy bears, rocking horses and wheeled toys for Australia and New Zealand children. Behind a toy shop on a busy suburban street in Sydney's south, "doll surgeons" transplant fingers, toes and heads, and repair broken eye sockets in dolls who were the victim of a childhood tantrum or sibling rivalry, sometimes decades ago.

Third of four pictures - A doll's head is pictured after having its eyes hand-painted by Australian doll repairer Kerry Stuart, a 25-year veteran at Sydney's Doll Hospital, June 17, 2014. The Doll Hospital, a family business over 100 years old, employs a handful of skilled workers to restore and repair people's childhood treasures. In an age where plastic dolls are mass produced, few dolls hospitals around the world have survived. Picture taken June 17, 2014. REUTERS/Jason Reed (AUSTRALIA - Tags: SOCIETY)
