Auction campany employee Ellen Sinn displays the Ashoka Diamond, a 40.45-carat D-color and internally flawless mounted on a ring, estimted to fetch US$4.5 million at auction later in New York, here March 6. The diamond is of unknown antiquity and had its origin in Hyderabad of southern India. From approximately 1000 A.D. until the discovery of diamonds in Brazil in 1725, these mines almost exclusively yielded the world most famous diamonds.
