Military security patrol squads march through Beijing's Tiananmen Square during the state-of-the-nation address at the opening of the National People's Congress, or parliament, which opened March 5 at the Great Hall of the People. During the 13-day session deputies will have an opportunity to discuss regional problems and are expected to pass sweeping changes on criminal procedures.
