TURKEY'S NATIONALIST FAR-RIGHT LEADER TURKES IS BURIED
Followers, known as "Grey Wolves", shout slogans and make "Grey-Wolf" sign as they accompany the flag-draped coffin of Alparslan Turkes, leader of ultra-right Nationalist Action party, April 8, as tens of thousands march through the streets of Ankara, braving a springtime snowstorm. Turkes, whose grand vision of Turkic unity from the Balkans to China's Great Wall has entered Turkey's political mainstream, died of a heart attack April 5 aged 80. His followers fought leftists in street battles in the late 1970s which prompted the army to launch a coup and send Turkes to a military jail for four and a half years.
