FRENCH SOCIALIST PARTY LEADER LIONEL JOSPIN JOINS DEMONSTRATION
French Socialist Party leader Lionel Jospin (R) shakes hands with one of the 60,000 workers who took part in a pan-European march for jobs in central Brussels March 16. Led by a large contingent of workers from French car group Renault, trades unionists and politicians staged the protest to vent their anger at high unemployment and the steady erosion of job security. Renault is at the heart of a controversy in Belgium over its decision to close a plant outside Brussels with the loss of over 3,000 jobs.
