LOOTERS RUN AWAY AS POLICE FIRE TEARGAS AT RIOTERS IN PORT MORESBY
Looters run for cover as Papua New Guinean police fire a volley of teargas to disperse thousands of demonstrators who rioted and looted shops for the second consecutive day in the South Pacific nation's capital of Port Moresby, March 20. The crisis started on Monday when army chief Jerry Singirok demanded that Prime Minister Sir Julius Chan resign for hiring foreign mercenaries to end a conflict on Bougainville island. Singirok was soon sacked.
