SOLDIERS LIFT CORDON TAPE WITH RIFLES IN PERU
Special forces police use the barrel sights of their AK-47 assault rifles to help raise tape marking a police line so a truck carrying loud speakers could pass underneath, outside the Japanese ambassador's residence in Lima, January 27. The police gave no immediate explanation for having placed dozens of loud speakers around the residence which Tupac Amaru rebels seized on December 17 and continue to hold 72 hostages.
